Abstract

185,457. Purdy, A. J. May 3, 1921. Motor-cars; cycle tractor attachments; motors, mounting or supporting.-In motor vehicles of the kind in which three wheels B at the rear are arranged as shown in Fig. 2, and a single wheel A is placed at the front so that the vehicle may run either on four wheels or on two wheels like a motor-cycle, a main frame P supporting the weight of the body and mounted on the two outer wheels B pivotally carries at E a secondary frame D having the engine mounted thereon and supported by the centre wheel B. Links 24 connect the frame D to arms F secured to a shaft 20 mounted in the frame P. An arm H mounted on the shaft 20 is connected to the piston rod 22 of an air cylinder J which receives air under pressure from a tank. Air is supplied to the tank by a pump W mounted on the gear case C. An arm 23 on the shaft 20 is connected by a rod K to an arm L secured to a shaft mounted in the front end of the frame P. An arm N on this shaft is connected by links 0 to a collar 16 mounted on the steering post U and resting on a spring 17. The steering post U is mounted in brackets S, T on upright members R of the frame P and carries a toothed sector 11 which is engaged by a worm on a shaft driven through bevel gears 14 from the steering column 15.
