Abstract
185,400. Kolb, J. F. Aug. 31, 1921, [Convention date]. Inspecting.-In a device for inspecting tubular fabrics, a lamp disposed within the tube of fabric has electrical connection with a source of current by means extending through the fabric. As shown, a knitted tubular fabric a, drawn by a tension device c from a knitting-machine b, is spread by a frame d carrying an arm f and lamp g, and the pins or teeth r of a conducting-wheel q, rotated by the movement of the fabric, pass through the wall of the fabric and between a pair of spring contacts l connected to the lamp. The contacts l are carried by conducting-plates x disposed on the outer sides of guide-plates i which are bolted to the two sides of a spacing non-conducting block h, the contacts being arranged to pass through arcuate slots k in the guide-plates. The arm f is connected by a wire i to one of the lamp terminals and the plates x are connected by a wire m to the other lamp terminal. Current from the source passes through the machine frame to the spreading- frame and so by the wire i to the lamp. From the lamp the current passes by the wire m to the contacts l and then by the wheel q, conducting- block s, and wires u, v back to the source. In cases where it is undesirable to pass the current through the machine another wheel q is mounted on the opposite sides of the block p and an additional set of guide-plates and contacts l is provided; one wheel then serves to introduce the current and the other to lead it off.
