Lace.-Fabrics of the type described in Specification 13317/15 are adapted for use as incandescent mantle fabrics by being formed so as to present two faces independent to some extent of each other. The fabric may be made tubular. A lace machine is provided with four sets of warp bars, carrying threads 1, 2, 3, 4. The threads 1, 2 twist with alternate bobbin threads f - - f<2> while the threads 3 are tied to the same bobbin threads by the threads 4. Each thread 1 or 2 twists with its own bobbin thread and no other and the threads 1, 2 are so laid that they loop with each other as shown in Fig. 4 to give loop effects similar to those described in Specification 13317/15. The threads 3 traverse to and from alternate bobbin threads f - - f<2> while the threads 4 continually pillar with the same bobbin threads. A similar fabric may simultaneously be made from the remaining bobbin threads b - - b<2> working with other warp threads which are arranged similarly to the threads 1 - - 4 and are indicated in Fig. 1 by dotted lines. The front and the back fabrics can be united at intervals to form tubes by causing some of the threads 3 to traverse to and from adjacent bobbin threads as b, f instead of, as in making separate back and front fabrics, to and from alternate bobbin threads b, b' or f, f<1>. The tubes so formed may be joined by lacing threads. According to the Provisional Specification, tubes are formed by causing certain of the loop cross and pillar threads to weave with adjacent bobbin threads.
