Lace.-In the production of Valenciennes lace in machines employing a full set of bobbin threads and a right and reverse-twist warp-thread to each, the whole of the threads work in pairs and the two half-sets of right-twist warps A, A<1>, instead of being traversed over two carriages as usual, are traversed over four gates. The bobbin threads C are thus drawn in pairs over four gates, and a more solid and even bobbin fining effect, presenting a greater contrast to the net, is thus obtained. The reverse-twist warps B also work in pairs, are traversed two gates in reverse direction each motion, and interweave in pairs with the crossing bobbin threads C at points between the pairs of warps A, A<1>. In making half-fining work, the warps A, A<1> are traversed four gates every alternate motion and two gates on the remaining sections. The facing-bar is brought forward in front of the centre of the machine a sufficient distance to ensure the large amount of thread that is necessary with this system of working being drawn off the bobbins each time the carriages move from front to back. The improved bobbin fining can be produced in conjunction with any ordinary net or ground or with diamond nets made in ten, twelve, or more motions by working the warpthreads in pairs, as described above. Figs. 2 and 3 show such nets made with two-motion ties and single ties respectively. The bars of the nets are each composed of six threads twisted together, i.e. pairs of threads A or A'. B and C, and are stronger, and the connexions are more secure than in nets as ordinarily produced.
