Moulds.-In moulding-machines in which a hollow block is ejected from the, mould by raising the bottom plate, a stationary core 12 is supported on a central pillar 13 adapted to serve as a guide for the crosshead 16 which is connected by rods 15 to the bottom plate. A rack 18 fixed at one end to the cross-head and at the other to the bottom plate is engaged by a pinion 19, which is carried ty a shaft 20 and revolved through gearing and a hand-wheel 21. Prior to operating the carrier to extrude the block, the side plates 1 are slightly released by loosening the nut 10 on the rod 9 so that the arms, 7 move away from the sides 1. In a modification, the moulding-surface of the ejector plate is arranged to be oblique to the vertical axis of the, mould, resulting in the formation of outwardly tapered blocks.
