Abstract
In a method of making cored foundry moulds the cores are formed or placed in a jig which moves from an initial position away from the mould to a position where the core or cores engage the casting cavity. The core or cores are then forced by power means out of the jig into the mould, the jig being withdrawn to leave the core or cores in the mould. A swing- ing support or jig A comprising two arms 8, 9, Figs. 2 and 3 (not shown), pivoted about a horizontal axis 10 and which carries a pair of guide bars 11, 12 parallel to the axis 10. The jig swings under the action of hydraulic ram 13. A carriage 14 with an arm 15 is supported on the bars 11 and 12 and is reciprocated thereon by ram 16. The arm 15 can be turned about its axis with respect to the carriage 14 by hydraulic ram 17. The free end of the arm 15 carries a jig or support plate for the core or cores, or a core box if the cores are made in situ. Actuation of the hydraulic rams in sequence transfers the jig with the core or cores to a position adjacent the mould. Means are provided to force the core or cores from the jig into their required positions in the mould cavity. This means may be by ejector pins or by compressed air. Alternative arrangements for transferring the cores from their initial to their final position are indicated in Figs. 4 to 11 (not shown).
