Knock-down boxes; tampering with, preventing and detecting.-In boxes &c. formed of interchangeable flanged plates A, Fig. 1, detachably secured together by bolts &c. passed through holes in the flanges B which are inclined at an angle of 35‹ to the plate, the material forming the flanges is folded and pressed down as shown in Fig. 4, to give an edge three times the thickness of the body part. Each plate is notched or cut away at the comers before folding so as to give the required angle to the corners of the flanges which may be soldered to give added strength. Instead of bolts or rivets, eyelets may be used to secure the plates together and to indicate any tampering with the box such eyelets may bear a special mark and are destroyed in opening the box. Strips of suitable material may be inserted between adjoining flanges to give air or liquidtight joints.
