Abstract

182,304. Bourne, T. June 14, 1921. Drilling-machines; tapping.- An automatic machine for simultaneously drilling and tapping, or for analgous operations has the rotation of the tool spindles reversed, one spindle fed and blanks supplied by means of a single cam member. The machine shown is for countersinking and tapping nuts. Nut blanks dare supplied to a tube c<3> and are received singly by a slide c<9> reciprocated through links and levers t, u<2>, u<4>, v, w, the latter having a spring 2 attached, acted on by a stud m on the cam plate k, driven through worm gearing from the main shaft e. The slide is returned by a spring 1. The spindle g is fed by a lever j actuated by a slot n in a plate adjustably secured to the cam, and the spindle f by a detachable screwed sleeve f<2> working in a fixed bush f<3>, the sleeve and bush being changed according to the pitch required. Both spindles are driven from crossed and open belts s<2>, s<3>, pulley e<4>, and gearing e<3>, f<6>, f<7>, f<8>, h<6>, quick reversal being effected by means of studs l, m on the cam-actuating forks o<4>, o<5> through links o, o<7>, levers q, q<4>, and a spring-pressed roller r. A hand-wheel e<7>, is provided on the main drive shaft. According to the Provisional Specification, reversely running belt pulleys may drive through a clutch controlled by the mechanism o, o<7> &c. and the spindle g may be driven from the main shaft by a belt.
