Abstract

182,237. Peacock, T., and Newman & Guardia, Ltd. April 11, 1921. Tripod and like stands.-A camera, &c. stand, which may be collapsed to form an enlarged walking-stick, comprises three legs 1 pivoted to a common connecting-member 2 provided with a depending tube which receives the stem 4 of the camera or like support. This support comprises two circular plates 5, 5<1>, the lower member 5 having pivoted thereto three preferably rigid bracing-members 14, each of which slidably engages in. an undercut groove 12 formed in the exterior face of each leg 1. The stem 4 is adjusted vertically in the depending tube, which is split at its lower end and carries a clamping-nut 9. The bracing-members 14 carry at their lower ends a clamping-device 15 comprising two plates 16, 17 arranged in the undercut of of the grooves 12 and adapted to be separated by 'means of a lever 20 having one or more cams 21. The plate 5 is recessed at 25 to receive the head of a screw 26, to which the camera is secured, this screw being detachably held in position by a plate 27 having a keyhole slot 28 and slidably arranged between the two plates 5, 5<1>. A wire spring 30 may be fitted in a recess 25 and engaged in a circumferential groove 31 in the head of the screw 26. The stand may be collapsed as shown in Fig. 4, the parts being held together by a strap 35, a ferrule 33, and a cap 34, which may be held in position by the slotted plate 27. The cap 34 may be adapted to receive an actinometer.
