Abstract
181,836. Stone, H. C. March 22, 1921. Vehicle fittings and attachments. -Relates to mechanism for loading and unloading vehicles in which a traversing frame is pivoted astride the vehicle and is provided with means for swinging it about its pivotal points. The vehicle has a body 3, and the body and the U-shaped frame 11 are both pivoted at 4, the frame being operated by cables 14, 15. These cables are wound in opposite directions round a shaft. 18 driven by the engine shaft 8 through either bevel wheels 30, 31, bevel wheels 29, 25, 24 and a worm 210. The wheels 30, 31 are mounted on a sleeve splined on the engine shaft. A load cable 34 passing over guide and head sheaves on the U-shaped frame is operated by a shaft 41 driven by the engine shaft through a worm and worm wheel 43, 42 and clutch 45. A bar 49 on the vehicle body has lugs 48, 51 at right-angles, so that, when the lug 48 engages the pivoted frame, the other is free, but on rotating the bar the lug 48 is disengaged whilst the lug 51 engages under a bracket 52 on the vehicle. A clutch 54 holds the bar in either position. The vehicle may be leaded by employing the load cable to hoist the load up inclined ways attached to the rear of the vehicle; or by suspending the load in the frame and then swinging the frame on its pivots. Unloading may be effected in like manner, or by locking the body to the frame and tipping it thereby.
