Abstract
181,812. Jackson, W. J. Mellersh-, (Compagnie GÚnÚrale d'ElectricitÚ). March 17, 1921. Vocuum tubes.-A three-electrode thermionic or other tube has rod-like members, extending along the tube, and supporting the anode, the members being held rigidly at one end, and having at the other end means for guiding and supporting one end of the grid and cathode. As shown in Fig. 1, two rods 21, supporting the anode 20, are secured at one end to a glass tube 25 by clamps 23, 24, and, at the other end, carry two metallic bands 26, the outwardly-projecting ends 28, Fig. 2, of which form an elastic support inside the glass neck 2, thereby allowing expansion of the parts. The grid consists of a coil 14 of wire secured by finer wire to three rods 17, which are bent as shown, and secured at one .end to the tube 25, and at the other end slide along a support 27 clamped between the bands 26. The cathode consists of a U-shaped wire 5, the arms of which are kept parallel by means of a double hook 7, a claw, or a pulley secured to the support 27 by means of a spring 8, the end of which has a guide 9. The anode consists of a cylindrical or corrugated sheet of nickel or molybdenum secured to the rods by lugs 20<1>. The anode may be flanged at top and bottom to give greater rigidity. Collars 29, 30, 31, 32 are provided to prevent the formation of an arc along the glass between the electrodes.
