Abstract

181,458. Guy, H. L., Eccles, W., and Metropolitan-Vickers Electrical Co., Ltd. March 9, 1921. Machinery beds and frames ; guards.-A gearcase for toothed reducing gear of the countershaft type is elastically constructed so as to allow the countershaft to rock to equalize tooth pressures. Aligned driving and driven shafts are supported in central bearings 1, and the countershafts in pairs of lateral bearings 2. The pairs of bearings 2 are supported on V- or Y-shaped casing frames 8 which may bend about their bases 4 without affecting the bearings 1, which are supported on vertical struts 7. The casing further comprises diagonal strengthening members 15, 17, and a base plate 12, the spaces between being fillled by flexible sheets 13. The casing as a whole is supported on flexible I-beams 6 arranged in two mutually perpendicular lines under the parts 7 and 4 respectively. Specification 181,457 is referred to.
