Abstract

In the process for producing hydrogen, carbon monoxide, or a mixture of these gases by allowing steam or carbon dioxide or a mixture of the two to pass through an electric arc with sulphur vapour, as described in the parent Specification, the metal sulphides are utilized directly in the electric furnace. By this means the metal formed also reacts giving further quantities of hydrogen or carbon monoxide. The process is preferably carried out in a tubular flame-arc furnace into which the pulverized sulphide is blown together with the gas. If pyrites has been employed, the metallic oxide may be eliminated magnetically.ALSO:In the process for producing hydrogen, carbon monoxide, or a mixture of these gases by allowing steam or carbon dioxide or a mixture of the two to pass through an electric arc with sulphur vapour, as described in the parent Specification, the metal sulphides are utilized directly in the electric furnace.
