Abstract

Staiths; tipping-apparatus. - Relates to a staith, hoist, or similar tipping - appliance provided with means fur loosening small coal, ashes, ballast or similar material to facilitate discharge from trucks. The invention is described in connection w i t h an elevated structure A comprising a tipping- platform C for a truck D, and an adjustable shoot B for delivering the contents of the truck into the hold of a vessel. A power-driven device G, Fig. 2, for loosening the material in the truck comprises a rotating drum F with blades P and prongs or spikes N. The device G is suspended by a cable H passing over a guidepulley J movable horizontally, so that the drum is movable along any inclined path. The drum F is mounted in a casing g<1> to prevent the blades touching the walls or floor of the truck and to guide the material into the shoot. The casing g' is provided with a pivoted guard T. The drum is driven by a motor on the casing, and is held up to its work by chains, W, Fig. 1, secured to the truck and passed over pulleys W' on the casing.
