Abstract
181,141. Houget, F. March 17, 1921. Mules and twiners.-In a mule of the type having a fixed spindle carriage and a movable delivery mechanism, the delivery rollers are driven directly from the driving-shaft during the outward run. The main shaft 1 drives through a train of gearing a shaft 10 extending the length of the headstock. Keyed to this shaft, or secured to it, so as to slide along it is a bevelpinion 15 mounted in a bracket on the travelling frame 13 which carries the deliverv mechanism. The pinion 15 drives the roller shaft 27 through a train of gearing and a clutch. The clutch is operated by means of a fork 31 carried by a rockshaft 32, to which is attached an arm 35, and shoe 35<a>. The carriage 13 has pivotally mounted on it a lever with a part 36 to engage the shoe 35<a>, and a pendent, bowl 40. During the first part of the outward run the clutch is in engagement and the rollers are driven. At the necessary point the bowl 40 engages an adjustable stop 41, movable along a bar 42, the part 36 then engages a sloping part of the shoe 35<a> and the clutch is opened. Further movement brings the part 36 against a flat part on the shoe and the clutch is held open during the remainder of the outward run, and during the inward run. At the end of the inward run the bowl 40 engages a stop 43 and the clutch is re-engaged.
