Abstract

180,759. Bates, A., and British United Shoe Machinery Co., Ltd. March 2, 1921. Turnshoes, machines for.-Relates to machines of the type described in Specification 25059/09 for reforming turnshoes or like operations, wherein a bottomed shoe in process of manufacture is shaped or stretched by the expansion therein of a divided last or form, and consists in (a) means to arrest the yielding separation of the parts of the divided last when a predetermined expansion has been reached, and (b) means including a part entering between the upper and the last to conform the inner surface of the shoe to the last. As shown, the divided last 2, 5 is expanded by a toggle 9, 10 actuated by a rod 12 connected at its lower end to a lever resiliently actuated by a crank performing half a revolution for each revolution of a main driving shaft driven by a one-revolution clutch. The expansion of the last is limited bv an adjustable screw stop 14. A gauge is provided for determining the position of the stop comprising a bar 20 having at one end a slide 21 co-operating with size graduations and at the other end a spring pressed pointer engaging the toe of the last. A cam may be substituted for the screw stop 14. Grippers 31, 33, operated by rods 43 each engaging a roll 46 moving with the toe part 5 of the last, stretch the upper as the last expands. The grippers may be manually operated.
