Abstract
180,450. Constantinesco, G. March 5, 1921. Fluid-actuated valves.- A horn &c. actuated by the suction of an internal combustion engine is provided with a reservoir l communicating with both the trumpet a and the induction pipe h of the engine through a valve f which controls the two passages in such a manner that during normal running the horn is actuated by the suction of the engine and a vacuum is produced in the reservoir l whilst when the engine suction is insufficient to operate the horn the suction created by the vacuum in the reservoir is utilized for this purpose. The valve f consists of a cylindrical chamber having at one end a connection g to the induction pipe h, at the other end a connection k to the reservoir l, and at the side a third connection e leading to the horn a through a controlling device b similar to that described in Specification 181,103. Two valve members r, s are mounted on a common spindle t. When the engine suction is normal the disc r is drawn away from its seating but air is sucked from the reservoir l to create a vacuum therein through small apertures u. If the suction in the pipe a falls, due for instance to the throttle being fully opened, the valve r shuts down and the valve s opens. rendering the suction in the reservoir available for operating the horn.
