Abstract

Azo dyes are obtained by coupling 1-diazo-2-oxynaphthalene-4-sulphonic acid or a derivative thereof with halogen substitution products of a -naphthol; they dye wool from an acid bath red violet shades becoming grey to blue by afterchroming and violet by aftercoppering. By treating the dyestuffs in known manner with agents yielding chromium there are obtained chromium compounds dyeing wool from an acid bath fast grey, blue, and green shades. According to examples, 1-diazo-2-oxynaphthalene-4-sulphonic acid is coupled with 1-oxy-8-chloronaphthalene and the dyestuff, after isolation, is heated with chromium oxide, glycerine, and caustic soda solution, the chromium compound of the dyestuff being salted out; the nitrocompound of 1-diazo-2-oxynaphthalene-4-sulphonic acid is coupled with 1-oxy-5 : 8-dichloronaphthalene, the sodium salt of the dyestuff boiled with chromium fluoride and sodium acetate, and the chromium compound of the dyestuffs isolated in the usual manner. A table is given of the tints on wool of the acid dyeings, after-chromed dyeings, after-coppered dyeings, and of the dyeings of the chromium compounds of the dyestuffs from 1-oxy-8-chloronaphthalene or 1-oxy-5 : 8-dichloronaphthalene and the 1-diazo-2-oxynaphthalene-4-sulphonic acid or its chlor-, brom-, or nitro-derivative.
