Sewing-machines; feed by wheels; speed-regulating.-Variable-speed gear is provided between the main driven-pulley of a piece-end sewing- machine and the driving gear for the continuously-rotating spiked feed-rings, which is carried on the upper end of a shaft a. A loose sleeve c' on the main-shaft b carries a worm c, meshing with a wheel a<1> on the shaft a, and a pinion c<2> meshing with a broad gear-wheel g, mounted on a loose sleeve f<2> on a shaft f. A sleeve e, slidably keyed to the shaft b, may engage either the sleeve c' or spur-wheels d, d<1> loosely mounted on the shaft b. Spur-wheels h, h<1> on the sleev f<2> mesh in turn with the wheels d, d<1>. Levers i, j fulcrumed on a shaft o, Fig. 2, can be vibrated, by means of cams l, k, to slide the sleeves e, f<2> along their shafts, by means of dies i<1>, j<1> engaging grooves therein. This gear permits of three different feeding speeds, and therefore three different lengths of stitch.
