Abstract

Operating clutches. - Apparatus for making coffee designed to make a predetermined amount and then stop may be driven by a motor through a clutch 88, which is normally held unclutched by a spring 91 acting on a plate 90 attached to the clutch. The clutch can be locked in position for continuous action by means of a push button 92 on the stem of which is a projection 93 which can be made to engage with a stop 94. To cause the machine to make a definite amount of coffee and then stop, there are provided a series of push rods 96 furnished with buttons 97 and collars 95 pressing against the plate 90. Corresponding to the rods 96 are a series of pinions 103 driven at different rates. When one of the buttons 97 is pushed in the clutch 88 is caused to engage and a hook 110 on the rod 96 disengages a lever 108 and allows a. disc 106 to drop on to the corresponding pinion 103 by which it is driven by friction. At the same time a projection 113 on the rod 96 enters a groove 111 on the disc 106 through a slot 112 and is retained by the groove until the disc has made a complete revolution, when it is retracted by the spring 91. disengaging the clutch 88 and raising the disc 106 from the pinion 103.
