Abstract

179,673. Cox, E. C., and Braby & Co., Ltd., F. Feb. 14, 1921. Indicators actuated by floats. - Relates to a float-actuated means for measuring the quantity of liquid remaining in and delivered from a tank, more particularly a petrol storage tank delivering from bulk to a vehicle, of the type in which the liquid is drawn off from a float chamber of constant small cross-sectional area which m a y temporarily be placed in communication with the tank. The change in liquid level in the float chamber is used to move a rack secured to a float which (i) operates a totalising units counter u and also (ii) a. fractional indicator v indicating fractions of units measured on the totalizing-counter u and (iii) bears a scale reading against a pointer y which indicates, when the float chamber is placed in communication with the tank, the volume of liquid remaining in the tank. The Provisional Specification also describes an alternative method of indicating liquid level in which a graduated tape actuated by the float and wound on a drum moves past an adjustable pointer and glazed aperture straining the spring of a spring returned drum through reducing gearing, somewhat as described in Specification 106,753.
