Abstract

In fuels consisting of a mixture of finely-divided solid combustible, such as coal, peat, lignite, and cellulose from beet-sugar refineries or from pulp mills, and coal tar, coaltar fuel oils, or petroleum or mineral oils, the suspension is stabilized by thickening the oil by means of oleates, stearates, palmitates, or paraffin or other wax substances. Alcohol may be added. In examples, 2lb. of coal passing a sieve of 200 strands per linear inch and 1 gallon of petroleum fuel oil, or equal parts of coal and mineral oil with 15-30 per cent of the stabilizer, are used. Solid fuels may be treated in this manner to enable them to be transported by pumping. Specification 17729/13 is referred to.
