179,197. Akt.-Ges. der Maschinenfabrik von T. Bell et Cie. May 2, 1921, [Convention date]. Screw motors; Working-fluid supply.-The rotor of a high-speed water turbine is provided with, at most, three helical blades of varying axial pitch and of such length that the length of a stream line on the blade is greater than the circumferential pitch of the blades in the corresponding stream-line surface. The water flows through guide-vanes 4, which may be movable for controlling the turbine, to a space H and passes thence to the rotor, which is shown with only one blade 1, and finally passes to a suction tube. The axial pitch of the blade decreases towards the exit end, the entrance angle being greater than the exit angle. The exit area of the fully open guide-vanes should equal 3 II r<2>, r, being the smallest radius of a chamber 2 enveloping the rotor, and the height B of the guide-vanes should at least equal r. The guide-vanes may be arranged axially or obliquely instead of radially as shown.
