675,767. Variable-pitch propellers. LIAAEN, N. J. March 24, 1949, No. 8102/49. Class 114. In a propeller on which the pitch is varied by a rod 4 sliding inside the propeller shaft, the consequential variation in pressure in the oil filling the hub is reduced by the end of the rod moving in a sleeve 8 containing air and communicating by tubes 9 with a container 6, the oil in which covers the tube outlets during running. In a modification the end of the rod is of the same diameter as the entry portion so that no variation in oil pressure occurs. The end of the rod thereby compresses the air in the chamber 6.
