Abstract

178,951. Cole, H. H., and Sedgwick, F. Jan. 28, 1921. Roundabouts.-In an amusement apparatus, a passenger car &c. is given a turning movement in two directions alternating with a vertical movement. The car &c. is mounted on a spindle 2, Fig. 1, having a semicircular peg wheel 3 engaging a pinion 5 which is rotated continuously. As the last peg is about to quit the pinion 5, a pin 6 on the wheel 3 engages a fixed cam 7 and lowers the spindle 2 so that the peg wheel 3 then engages the underside of the pinion 5 and is rotated in the reverse direction. At the end of the next half-revolution the peg-wheel 3 is raised by the pin 6 and cam 7 A spring 8 is provided to reduce shock. The device is mounted on a rotating platform 1, Fig. 5, and driven by gearing from the track wheels.
