Abstract

178,674. Tymms, F. Oct. 10, 1921. Magnetic compasses.- To provide for angular adjustment of a navigational compass in relation to the craft on which it is fitted, the compass is secured to a metal ring A superposed and adjustable on a metal ring B which is secured to the craft and is of equal external diameter to and of greater internal diameter than the ring A. The compass may be secured to the ring A by bolts at F, Fig. 1, or by bolts engaging lugs J in the outer edge of the ring. Sets of interlocking teeth C are provided at the ends of the fore-and-aft diameter of the rings, and, for clamping the rings together, bolts pivoted to the ring B and adapted to swivel through slots K in the edge of the ring A are each fitted with a thumb-nut G adapted to bear on the upper face of the ring A. These bolts move in slots H, Fig. 1, in the ring A when the compass is adjusted.
