Abstract
178,468. Roth, E. April 16, 1921, [Convention date]. Floors, cleaning.-In brushing-apparatus for cleaning or polishing floors the frictional resistance of the floor is overcome by weights fitted to the brush and to which a reciprocating, circular, or pendulum - like movement is imparted. In the construction shown in Fig. 1 and 2, two weights 6 pivoted on pins 3 are eccentrically mounted in the brush and are operatively connected to each other by means of gear wheels 5, one of which is driven by a pinion 2 keyed to the spindle of an electric motor 4. The brush is moved to and fro in the direction 7 when the centrifugal forces produced by the revolution of the weights exceed the friction between the brush and the floor. In the construction shown in Fig. 4, a support 3 in the brush carries a driven shaft 2 fitted with a crank arm and pin 4 reciprocating a weight 6 by means of a connecting rod 5. The friction of the brush on the floor is overcome when the reaction on the support 3 becomes sufficiently large.
