Abstract

Transformers. - In stationary electrical apparatus, such as transformers, cooled by a liquid flowing in tubular conductors, the entry and exit points of the liquid are equipotential with the neutral point, whereby the liquid channel may be connected to earth. Fig. 1 shows a tubular secondary winding of a transformer in which double loop windings 1, 2, 1. 3 are fed in parallel and supply a mercury rectifier. The cooling liquid enters and leaves as shown by the arrows, and the point 1 is made the earth point of the system. The anodes of the rectifier may be cooled by the conductors, as at 2<111> and 3<111>. Fig. 2 shows an arrangement applicable to two or more transformers A, B. Cooling water enters the tubular secondary windings at the neutral point 4 and flows in parallel paths through the windings 5, 5<1>, 6, 6' to the second neutral point 4'. The application is also showr. in a tubular transformer winding comprising a polygonal winding with a star winding connected to it at symmetrical points in which the inlet and outlet points for the cooling medium correspond to the star point and in which a portion of the polygonal winding is used as a liquid-cooled anode in a rectifier. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also a delta-connected tubular transformer winding opened at one corner to give immediately adjoining inlet and outlet openings for the cooling medium. Also an alternative form of combined star and mesh winding, the mesh limbs of which are extended to form a number of cooling loops for a multiple-anode rectifier. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
