Abstract

178,418. Etablissements de Dion Bouton Soc. Anon. April 14, 1921, [Convention date]. Regulation, automatic systems and apparatus for; systems of charging and discharging galvanic batteries.-A supply system comprising a battery and a variable-speed generator is provided with an electromagnetic switch, the armature of which in one position is adapted to short-circuit a resistance in the shunt field circuit of the generator and in its other position inserts the resistance and closes the circuit of an auxiliary winding to hold the armature in its attracted position. In a modification the resistance is divided into two sections and the magnet is provided with two armatures adapted to be attracted successively. The battery circuit 10, Fig. 1, contains the winding 4 of a magnet 3, the armature 3<1> of which moves between the contacts 9, 8. In the position shown, the armature 3<1> short-circuits a resistance 7 in the circuit of the shunt field winding 6 of the generator 1. When the current in the winding 4 exceeds a predetermined value, the armature 3<1> is attracted to insert the resistance 7 and to close the circuit of an auxiliary winding 5 on the magnet 3. In the modification shown in Fig. 2, the resistance 11 is divided into two parts and the magnet 3 is provided with two armatures 15, 16 and two auxiliary windings 5, 5<1>. In the positions shown, the resistance 11 is completely short-circuited. When the armature 15 is attracted, the right-hand portion of the resistance 11 is inserted and the circuit of the auxiliary winding 5 is completed. When the armature 16 is attracted, the left-hand portion also of the resistance is inserted and the circuit of the auxiliary winding 5 is completed.
