Abstract

177,897. Noddings, H. S. Jan. 15, 1921. Turning.-A sine bar for use in taper turning comprises a rectangular block 10, the sides 11, 12 of which are provided with centres 15, 16, the axis of the centres being parallel to the edges 13, 14. The portion of the block adjacent the edge 14 is reduced in thickness and carries a bar 21 pivoted at 22 to the block and securable when set by a nut 25. The bar 21 carries a pin 30 at a known distance from the pivot 22. Two tapped holes 40 are provided in each edge of the block by which a bar 42 of known thickness can be secured to any one of the edges. To set the bar 21 to any given angle the distance from the top of the bar 42 to the bottom of the pin 30 is calculated from the known values of the size of the angle and' the dimensions of the various parts of the gauge. A micrometer 50 adjusted to the calculated distance is set on the guage as shown in Fig. 3 and the bar 21 adjusted until the pin 30 touches the micrometer. The bar 21 is then clamped.
