Abstract
177,851. Sayers, W. B. Dec. 30, 1920. Rotary machines; coils and conductors; pole-pieces and cores.-In a dynamoelectric machine having the armature core freely mounted relatively to the conductors, the conductors are arranged so that the operative parts cross one another and lie substantially on the surface of a solid of revolution produced by revolving a flexible cord or member about an axis carrying radial arms in different planes, the ends of the cord being attached to the arms. Fig. 1 shows the armature core 1 freely mounted on the shaft 5 and the system of conductors 2 anchored to the commutator 7 and to a clamping member 9, 10, and jack screws 13 bearing on the fixed plate 12 adapted to stress the conductors. Figs 7 and 10 show a modification in which the armature case 1 and the polar face 20 of the field magnet are profiled so that the air gap is of a substantially constant width. The conductors may be composite and have incorporated in them magnetic material 16, Fig. 6, and they may be shaped so as to interlock. The conductors may be supported in or about cages or frames which may be of magnetic, partly magnetic, or of non- magnetic material.
