Abstract

176,903. Hoyle, H. P. Dec. 17, 1920. Addition to 164,506. Strainer separators.-The drying-machine described in the parent Specification is combined with a disintegrator mounted upon the shaft carrying the screen. The shaft 1 carries a spider 3, the arms 5 of which act as fan blades, and also support the wedge wire screen 4. Another set of fan blades 7 is carried by the top of the screen 4. The sleeve 14 carries the drum 15 with the helix 16, which has an increasing pitch in the downward direction. The casing is in four parts 27, 28, 29, 30; the part 29 has an inclined circular duct for the separated water, and the part 30 carries bars 32 with rings 33 riveted thereto. These bars with the bars 9 on the cylinder 8 form the disintegrator. Wet coal enters through the shoot 35 and travels down the helix 16 while being thrown against the screen 4 and the water extracted. The helix 16 rotates at a lower speed than the screen 4. The drying process is assisted by a current of air produced by the fan blades 5, 7. The coal falls upon the revolving bars 9 and is broken up, and drops into the hopper 34. In a modification the disintegrator consists of two conical parts with inclined serrations.
