The stem k is prevented from rotating by the engagement of a boss l with .a rod m of square cross-section fixed to the bottom of the cylinder. The end q of the handle r is threaded to engage with the stem k and is formed with a conical recess s to receive the conical end t of the rod m. When the handle is screwed against the rod, the piston i is drawn out and fluid forced into the cylinder b to raise the lifting-pillar e.
