Abstract
175,735. Pitblado, L., and Horniman, J. E. Nov. 18, 1920. Tea, breaking; tea manufacture.-In order to remove the stalks from tea it is first graded by an air blast; the larger pieces containing the stalks are then crushed between resilient surfaces which break up the blade but do not injure the stalks, which are then removed by sifting. The tea is allowed to fall in a thin stream in front of a trunk through which passes an air blast, which carries the pieces of different sorts into different receptacles. The portion containing the stalks then passes from a hopper 10 to the rear end of a travelling band 11 passing over a roller 30 and the lower rollers of a set 12. A second band 13 passes over the upper rollers of the set, and the rollers are set more closely as the band advances. The band is made of heavy mill cloth and the rollers of rubber. The pressure is regulated so as to crush the blades without injuring the stalks. The crushed tea passes to a set of three sieves 17 mounted on springs 18 and reciprocated by an eccentric 16. The uppermost sieve is made of sheet metal punched with circular holes about <5>/32 of an inch in diameter.
