Diaphragm horns. -A rotary disc l carries a number of strikers n pivoted on studs, o, so that thev spread out under the action of centrifugal force a n d b e a t against a stud p carried by the sounding diaphragm q. The stud p on the diaphragm projects into an opening z in a partition y. This partition shields the diaphragm from the mechanical elements and acts as a sound reflector to augment the note. Sound-production is further aided by the funnel-shaped space t<1> outside the diaphragm, and also by forming a circular bead x on the diaphragm itself. The ends of the strikers are bevelled-off as shown in Fig. 2; or they may be of the form shown in Fig. 5. The shaft k carrying the disc l is held in ball bearings i, h in a bracket d, which is adjustably mounted in the casing c by means of two screwspindles, the lower spindle e being at right-angles to the upper f. Two diaphragms may be used in juxtaposition, suitably spaced apart and connected by a central stay-bolt. The shaft k may be driven by an electric motor arranged within the casing c.
