Detecting subaqueous sounds.-In a directional hydrophone the sensitiveness is increased by arranging on opposite sides an air-backed diaphragm and a baffle of any type. In the example illustrated, the hydrophone carcase 1 is mounted on threaded rods 4 which support at one end a casing 5 carrying an air-backed diaphragm 6 and at the other a baffle 8 of known construction.
