Abstract

Aug. 24, 1920, Printing processes. - A transparent composed original is employed in the preparation of plates for printing paper garment patterns having printed outlines and indication marks and tinted or stippled areas. The outlines, indication marks, &c. of the several pieces of the pattern are drawn, from a cardboard model, on transparent paper in opaque ink, and pieces of uniformly stippled transparent paper of the required shape are pasted over the pattern pieces. This composed original is placed over a sensitized zinc plate and exposed, preferably under Cooper-Hewitt lights, after which the plate is flowed with an asphaltum solution, dried, rubbed with lithographic ink, and hung in a potash solution. The sensitive and asphaltum coatings are removed along lines corresponding to the opaque lines on the original, so that the plate thus produced is a positive. The transparent original may alternatively be used to prepare a print on transparent Vandyke or similar paper which is used to expose a sensitive zinc plate as before.
