Abstract

368,083. Photo-mechanical printing- surfaces. KALLE & CO. AKT.-GES., 23, Rheinstrasse, Biebrich-on-Rhine, Germany. March 16, 1931, No. 8097. Convention date, March 14, 1930. [Class 98 (ii).] Planographic printing-surfaces are prepared on a base of a cellulose derivative capable of being saponified, such as acetyl or nitrocellulose, the parts which are not to print being treated with a saponifying agent to convert the cellulose derivative to cellulose hydrate which is capable of retaining water whereas the cellulose derivative itself acts to retain a fatty ink. Plastifying-agents may be added to the cellulose derivative to render it more elastic and enable it to produce a better print. The derivative is arranged in the form of a sheet preferably carried by a flexible base such as rubber reinforced by metal plates. The design on the sheet may be prepared by photography upon a light-sensitive layer applied to the sheet, and can be protected by asphalt or lithographic ink. The plate is then treated with caustic soda solution.
