Abstract
173,941. Peace, H. W., and Gibson, J. W. Nov. 19, 1920. Pedals for bicycles, of the kind wherein the frame comprises a unitary moulded structure having end plates and integral side bars spaced from the barrel, are formed with the side bars parallel with the barrel and are fitted with pedal rubbers which are slotted longitudinally and are adapted to be distended to allow of the insertion of the bars into the slots, the rubber material gripping the side bars to retain the rubbers in position. As shown, the rubbers 9 have longitudinal slots or grooves 11, 10 in the two sides to receive inner and outer side bars 7, 6, the rubber between the grooves being hollow as at 12 to enable the rubbers to be pressed into position. A cap 14, screwed to the outer end of the pedal frame, fits over a circular flange surrounding the cup-shaped ball-bearing recess at the end of the barrel. In a modification, the side bars are formed substantially T-shaped in cross-section, and the rubbers, which have an internal longitudinal slot and are split on one side, are placed in position by spreading open the split side.
