Abstract

173,617. Alexander, A. E., (United States Hoffman Machinery Co., Inc.). Oct. 6, 1920. Ironing-machines with pressing-action only.- Presses of the type having toggle-operated pressing members movable relatively to each other, are provided with means for applying a prelimirary pressure by a toggle mechanism and a final pressure by a motor-driven eccentric acting on the toggle. Preliminary pressure is applied to the head 7 by toggles 10, 11 and 15, 16 arranged as shown in Fig. 2 and straightened by a pedal 24 pivoted by a pin 22 to the framing. The member 11 is jointed on a pin 29 to a bifurcated plate 27 pivoted on a pin 28, about which it is moved by an eccentric 31. After initial pressure is applied between the bead 7 and buck 8 by the pedal 24 the cam 31 is revolved through 180‹ by an electromotor (not shown) to displace axially the straightened toggle, 10, 11 and apply the final pressure. In a modification, the lower end of the member 11 is bifurcated and straddles the eccentric. In a further modification, an antifriction eccentric is employed.
