Abstract
173,501. Jacquelin, A. Dec. 28, 1920, [Convention date]. Upward - current classifiers.-In a plant for washing and separating coal, ores, ashes, &c., the material to be treated is first sized by a series of screens 28 and the separate fractions are fed to a number of funnels 10 of graduated size up which streams of water pass from corresponding compartments of a vessel 1 in communication through a pipe 47 with a constant-level tank 35. The funnels 10, which may be arranged in series or in groups, are fitted with adjustable overflows 17 over which the light materials are carried by the water and discharged through lateral shoots after being drained. The over-size material from the screen 28. after hand-picking, and the heavy products which fall through the water-in the funnels 10, pass to a discharge elevator 78, whilst the dust from the screen 28 is not washed but drops direct into a separate discharge channel. The tank 35 is provided with overflows 37, a feed pump 36, an intermediate tank, and a settling vat 30.
