Ash-pans.-A cinder sifter for use with a kitchen range comprises a drawer or receiver a with an up-turned flange b round the bottom, with a tray j, with a perforated bottom, resting on the flange. Spindles c, f, connected by bevel gearing, are mounted in the channels formed by the flange. On rotating the spindle by means of a handle h, blades g carried by the spindles f engage flanges k on the tray j, and give a reciprocating movement to the tray. The drawer a is placed beneath the fire-bars of the range or it may be built into the range. The tray is provided with sloping sides which cover and protect the mechanism in the channels. A receptacle, which may take the form of a separate drawer, is placed beneath the tray to catch the ashes. The drawer a is provided with a hinged sloping front o, which can be closed up during the sifting operation. Specifications 173,287, [Class 64 (i), Heating liquids &c.], and 173,289 are referred to.
