Class 26] The lower end of a dust-shoot 10 is provided with a flange 14 of which the lower surface fits closely against the surface surrounding the inlet aperture of the collecting container 20 ; these surfaces are inclined at a small angle to guides 18 on which the container rests and along which it is rolled or slid into a chamber 12 so that as the container enters a tight fit is made between the inclined surfaces of the shoot and container. In Fig. 1, the shoot terminates in a socket 46, the lower part of which carries the flange 14. The inlet to the container is surrounded by a fiat rim 26 faced with soft material, and the container is provided with a lid 30 at its side and wheels 22. When the container is thrust into the chamber and the door 32 of the latter closed, it is caused by means of springs 34 carried by the latter to assume a position in which the flanges register with a tight fit and a shutter 48 carried by the socket 46 is moved by a projection 54 on the container to a position in which an aperture 50 registers with the shoot. The container is locked in this position by the engagement of a pin 42 and a catch 36 which may be released by a pedal 44. In another form, Fig. 2, the flange 14 is carried by a sleeve 56 moving against the action of a spring 58 on the lower end of the shoot. In another form described only in the Provisional Specification, the container is mounted on a separate truck, has a lid at the bottom and has a horizontal top with a short cylindrical trunk constituting the inlet aperture and provided with an inclined flange which co-operates with a shoot similar to that shown in Fig. 2.
