Abstract

Coiled and sinuous tube superheaters; straighttube superheaters; controlling superheat.-In a vertical boiler, steam is superheated in tubes m, Fig. 1, in an auxiliary flue a passing through the steam dome e. The main part of the furnace gases pass downwards in the combustion chamber c to an annular flue at the bottom of the boiler and then upwards through smoketubes c<1> to a smoke chamber p around the steam dome. The lower ends of the superheating tubes open into an annular steam space i formed by placing a tube h around the auxiliary flue. The upper end of the annular steam space opens into the steam dome. The upper ends of the superheating tubes may be connected to a tubeplate n at the end of the steam dome. The ontlet 4 of the auxiliary flue may be permanently or adjustably contracted, and a steam jet 5 suppled with steam through a control valve 7 may be fitted in the outlet. The superheating-tubes may pass up and down the flue several times or they may be coiled.
