Abstract

172,257. Goitre, M. April 20. 1921. Cards.-In an arrangement of tabs on guide cards in a card index. the primary tabs 1 corresponding to the first letter or sign of the word or symbol indexed have a constant width, equal for example to two units, and are arranged in a row parallel to the sides of the index, whilst the secondary tabs 2, 3, 4, which all start from the middle of the primary tabs 1, are of two, three, &c. units in length and have one, two, &c. signs such as notches 12 in their upper edges, according as they correspond respectively to the second, third, &c. letter or sign of the word or symbol. Secondary tabs 6, 8 bearing complete words and starting from the middle of the primary tabs 1 may also be used, these having no signs or notches in their upper edges and being of a length at least as great as that of any of the single-letter secondary tabs 2, 3, 4. Several series of tabs so arranged and placed successively sideways as shown may form primary, secondary, &c. classifications.
