Abstract

170,731. O. D. Cars, Ltd., and Eves, F. S. Aug. 25, 1920. Elliptic springs.-Springs of the cantilever typeare attached to the axles of road vehicles by a ball-and-socket attachment at the end of the master leaf, comprising a ball A with a flared horizontal slot to receive the end of the master leaf B and a second leaf B', which reaches to, nearly to, or over, the centre of the ball. A vertical bolt C at one side of the ball axis holds the leaf B and is secured by a countersunk nut c, and a plug D with a locking tenon d. The ball is held by two cups secured to the axle. Two semi-spherical pieces may replace the ball, or the masterleaf may have a spherical depression forming a cup which is located between concave and convex surfaces secured to each other and to the axle.
