Abstract

170,310. Marks, E. C. R., (Brown Co.). April 13, 1920. Rollers or cylinders. -In washing pulp, the mixed pulp and washing - liquor is strained in a series of straining- tanks 25 provided with rotating straining-cylinders C engaged by couchrolls 70. The straining - cylinders comprise heads 51 having tubular hubs or flanges bearing against angular flanges 52 on walls and provided with packing 53 held in place by metallic sleeves 54, which may be provided with means for contracting them as the packing wears. Each cylinder head is provided with radiating spokes with angular braces, and spiders 57 with similar spokes and braces are provided between the cylinder-heads, these spiders having abutting hubs secured on the cylinder shaft. The spokes and braces are connected by longitudinal rods 58 and nuts 59, spacing-sleeves 60 being provided. A cylindrical shell comprising a perforated curved steel plate is provided between the cylinder-heads, wbich have sockets receiving rods 63.
