Abstract

170,013. Huth Ges., Dr. E. F., and K³hn, L. Dec. 2, 1919, [Convention date]. Addition to 148,801. Thermionic modulating systems.-The output of a valve oscillator is modulated in accordance with speech or other signals by connecting a resistance in shunt to the valve battery, such resistance being varied by the signal producer. High-frequency current is prevented from passing through the resistance or the battery by providing a condenser in shunt, which condenser does not form part of the oscillatory output circuit of the valve oscillator. The variable resistance may comprise a valve with its grid potential controlled by the signal producer. The latter arrangement is shown in Fig. 2 in which the plate circuit of the oscillating valve is. energized by a battery q, which is also connected across the main electrodes of the modulating valve b, the grid of which is influenced by a microphone. A condenser k separate from the condenser of the oscillatory circuit z is connected across the battery q and forms a short-circuit for the high-frequency current. A choke-coil d is preferably connected in the leads of the battery q, and tends to keep the battery current constant during the fluctuations of the resistance of the tube b.
