169,213. Cole, H. A. Feb. 17, 1921. Drinking-vessels, cleaning. - Apparatus of the kind comprising an external polisher and an internal polisher, one of which is rotated while the other is axially movable, is provided with pads of sponge and chamois leather 11, 12 rigidly attached to a hollow spindle 5 rotated from a pulley 6, and with a similar pad 11<a> fixed to a shaft revolving with, but axially adjustable within the spindle 5, while stationary pads 19 in holders 18 are carried by pins 20 in levers 21 pivoted by pins 22 to a fixed disc 24 and adjustable by other pins 25 engaging a recessed disc 26 actuated from a handle 33. The external polisher is balanced by a mass 40. In operation, a glass is placed on a resilient knob 34 held by a spring within a casing 31 and the lever 33 actuated causing the pads 19 to grip the glass, the interior of which is pressed against the revolving pad 11, 12, 11<a> and polished. The pressure on the pads 19 is then slightly eased until the glass is rotated with the upper pads and its exterior cleaned by the lower pads. Modifications are described in which (1) each pad 19 is replaced by a plurality of spring- pressed pads pivoted on vertical shafts, (2) the pad 11<a> is fixed on the spindle 5, and the pads 11, 12 are axially adjustable, and (3) the pads 19 comprise helical springs covered in leather.
