Abstract

365,346. Polishing mops & brushes ; hand tool handles. BROWN, E. C., 38, Addison Gardens, West Kensington, London. Feb. 4, 1931, No. 3608. [Classes 19 and 61 (i).] A polishing, sweeping, or cleaning brush 1 consists of bristles fixed to a wooden disc 2 carried by an archimedean screw 3 working in a nut 4 in a tubular handle 5 and connected to a spring - pressed piston 6 which automatically returns the screw. The brush is not connected directly with the screw 3 but by a freewheel device consisting of a ball clutch with an inner race 10 fixed to the screw and an outer race 11 attached to the disc 2. The brush is secured to a dished disc 13 by screws 20. Pins 14 rigidly fixed in a disc 14<1> pass through discs 12, 13. Two springs 15, 16 are arranged on each pin, the springs 15 being stronger than those at 16. A ball castor 18 is provided on the disc 141 and rests on the floor in use. The resilient mounting allows the brush to remain flat on the floor while the handle is inclined. A cover 19 may enclose the springs &c. As the handle 5 is moved up and down without rotation the brush is driven in one direction only. Interchangeable discs 2 carrying different elements are provided. The device may be fed with polish, soap, &c.
